PAGE joined the Thailand UN Resident Coordinator Office’s outreach programme to support SDGs localization in Thailand. On 9 december, PAGE attended the UN Workshop for the Ministry of Interior on “77 provinces, 17 SDGs – for a Sustainable Thailand” . On this occasion, PAGE organised two breakout sessions and hosted an exhibition. The event brought together UN representatives, Thai representatives and Thai officials.

 

In this session, PAGE Thailand presented its workplan on sustainable waste management. The discussion aimed to enhance understanding on circular economy and mainstreaming the concept into provincial and local  policy and plan. This session was held in collaboration with UN-Habitat.

The efficient and sustainable waste management and beyond including resource efficiency at the local level is one of the key enablers to realize inclusive green economy leading to achieve SDGs.”, mentioned Ms. Wattanawiroon, PAGE Coordinator.

About 140 officials from the Ministry of Interior across the country took part in the discussion. This session registered the highest number of participants. The officials came from across the 77 provinces of the country.

 

The session covered information and example of good practices on

  • Bio economy (smart agriculture technology and practice);
  • Circular economy (circular research and technology for value added agriculture waste and food system) and;
  • Green economy (renewable energy sourced water irrigation and agroforestry promotion to achieve NDC.

This session was held in collaboration with Forest Department, Federation of Thai Industries, and private sector. About 135 officials from the Ministry of Interior attented.

 

A total of 6 breakout sessions were held during the UN Workshop. The event brought together Mr. Suttipong Juljarern, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior; Dr. Wandee Khunchornyakong Juljarern, President of the Ladies Association of the Ministry of Interior; UN RC Ms. Gita Sabharwal; Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and hundreds of Thai official from across the country.

PAGE activities in Thailand plan to contribute towards the achievement of SDGs 4 (Quality Education), 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), 13 (Climate Action) and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
